Whit Sheppard joined Nigel Bentley’s staff in January 2022 as an assistant coach. He brings a diverse tennis skill set to the Heights, having taught professionally in Boston, Texas, Virginia and New Mexico and also covered the ATP and WTA Tours for several years as a Paris-based journalist for ESPN.com. He counts among his tennis mentors the late Harry Hopman, the longtime Australian Davis Cup team captain, and Roy Emerson, winner of 12 Grand Slam singles titles.
Sheppard has covered the four majors multiple times and been a correspondent for Radio Wimbledon and color commentator for ESPN/DirecTV live coverage of the Australian Open. He has provided digital content to the ITF during Davis and Fed Cup competition from Miami to Moscow.
A native of Greenwich, Conn., and a graduate of Southern Methodist Univ. (BA, Journalism), he holds master’s degrees from the Universities of Texas (MBA) and Oregon (Literary Journalism). A fluent French speaker and also proficient in Spanish, he and his daughter Emily live in Boston’s South End and enjoy skiing in Vermont, summers on Martha’s Vineyard and international travel.
