Class of 1983 25th Reunion Special E-Newsletter
June 2008
This image pretty well sums up the spectacular 25th reunion on June 13-15, 2008. Reunion Chair Doug Schmidt is grinning for many reasons. He is standing in front of our exclusive 25th reunion headquarters tent that was situated on Ephraim Williams lawn, he is holding the Warren Agry ’41 Cup for reunion attendance and he has his first child in his arms, JD. A new member of the “Late to Fatherhood Club” (joined most recently by Chip Thorner, Jamie Robinson and Al Kerr), Doug has a lot to be proud of, but he is still being overhead saying what a great “cast of characters” the Class of 1983 turned out to be!
For more entertaining views of classmates in attendance, please visit our photobucket site at http://photobucket.com/DAReunions1983 Please add yours!

There is much clamoring for a full listing of contact information so the class to continue reconnecting and networking – and not just by the fortunate attendees of the reunion. To that end, the editor is preparing a spreadsheet of basic contact information – with street address included on if it is the only communication channel available (i.e. no email or phone on file). The editor is also considering mapping the address file, which is especially useful to those classmates who travel a considerable amount. If you are philosophically opposed to being slightly more available to your brethren of the Pocumtuck Valley, please email the editor at jknight01038@comcast.net by July 7th.
Let this be a lesson to those who weren’t sure about reunions. The class programs were informative, lively and just plain interesting. The food was good, the childcare options (kids over 3) were fantastic. The dorms still have no air conditioning. The beer is still plentiful. Your classmates are even more interesting to talk to. But singing along with Peter Hindle ’52 as he leads the assemblage in the school songs is still priceless.
Finally, one last plea for annual support participation. We’re aiming for 75 donors, a class record, in this special year. ANY AMOUNT is absolutely appreciated by Deerfield. Above all, counting you in would be best. Thanks for considering it if you haven’t already at www.deerfieldalumni.org or PO Box 306, Dfld, MA 01342

From Our Man in Kosovo:
Rob Gulick responds to the Iowa Caucus musings of Adam Feiges:
“Since Adam brought it up... If Obama becomes our next President, I'm in with several UN coeds who have until now rebuffed my advances with the simple question, "Are you American?"
I live in Pristina, Kosovo, by the way, where 90% of the native population has names like Hussein. Ironically, they'd all vote for Hillary if they had the chance. Pristina's main drag here is named "Bill Clinton Boulevard," after all, and many regard Albright as their queen. But, alas, don't let anyone tell you that Bill and Hillary (or Albright and Holbrooke) "fixed" the Balkans. Just Google 'Kosovo' news. To be fair, it's an incredibly complicated situation. Thousands of shades of gray, like the rest of the world. Which is precisely why I'd say it's high time for someone like Obama.”
And our man who’s “been there”, Drew Schiff, comments on Adam’s view of the Iowa Caucus system: “Pls tell adam that this is a spectacular summary of how this process, which is soooo different from all other processes, works.”
And this latest from Kosovo (how come the Americans in the States don’t care as much?)
See numbered photos below the following captions:
Obama's fan base in South Carolina. He really knows how to work up a crowd.
#1 Obama says, "Let's talk about peanut butter." (She says, "OK, mister. NOW you got my attention.")
#2 Obama: "I promise to support legislation mandating more peanut butter for school lunches. How about that?" (Seven-year-old future voter: "Aw-right. I'm down with that.")
#3 "AND... this law will say that all peanut butter has to be CRUNCHY!"
("And two for that!")
#4: Then all hell breaks loose when he adds, "Not only peanut butter, my friends, but also...[wait for it, OB...] marshmallow FLUFF!!" *
"OH... MY... GOD!!" she screams, as friend to her right faints.
"Are you ready for change, America?! STAND UP!! Stand up!!"
O-BA-MA!! O-BA-MA!! O-BA-MA!! O-BA-MA!!

Columbia Management announced today that it has named Jeffrey F. Peters head of institutional distribution. The firm is the Boston-based asset management unit of Bank of America Corp. of North Carolina, a financial-services company. Columbia Management, which disclosed a number of personnel changes today, said that Peters will report to firm president Michael A. Jones.
Peters, who most recently was with Putnam Investments, will oversee Columbia Management's institutional sales, client service, consultant relations, and international functions, the firm said.
